Saturdays I try my best to work on projects for the shop, and today I built a multi-pulley drive for my powered hacksaw to finally get it up and running. For some reason I thought about my grandpa a lot while cutting through the cloth-wrapped cords and re-wiring the motor. I never knew him well enough in my adult life, but I know he would have had a trick or two to teach me about three phase power, mechanical linkages, and everything else a boy needs to become a man. I think part of the reason I keep these old machines serviced and running is the history of all the hands that worked on them you can still feel every time they fire up. I spent today with my GrandJack, and it was a good day.
